The Book Reviews
Fascinating Viewpoints and Arguments
“This book was not what I expected but in the best way. The points presented by the author challenges you to think deeply, regardless of whether or not you agree with his viewpoints. One of the central themes presented in the text is that there’s healthy skepticism, but if unchecked, can turn into malignant cynicism. There’s a certain joy that comes with cynicism, the feeling that you’re above all ‘nonsense.’ It tells you that ‘doubt comes easier to humans than certainty,’ and I kept asking myself why that is. I’m not sure I have a clear answer, even after finishing the book and it’s another question that I will definitely keep pondering over.
“The author states that real faith is hard. Humans are told seemingly conflicting concepts—that God is good and perfect yet then why is there so much death, sickness, and suffering on Earth? Through the use of various Bible passages, historical texts by scientists and philosophers, and more, arguments are made about how even those of us with differing viewpoints (differentiating those of theists, deists, and atheists) may have more in common than we think if we just open our minds to it. Themes of duality, free-will, and context of literary texts support the author’s claims. We are called to look at life from God's perspective, challenging our definition of what ‘perfect’ means, and how we limit ourselves if we only focus on the seemingly incongruities of The Bible.
“The latter part of the book discusses how the theme of life, death, and resurrection can also be seen in our ecological systems. Things die in order to give life to others. This calls attention to the same theme that defines The New Testament and supports the case for God as the ultimate Creator. I particularly loved the author’s style of writing. The voice is informal yet scholarly. Passionate but never demeaning. It simply invites you to think differently and be open to concepts or ideas. I highly recommend this read for everyone, whether they are religious or not. ‘…cynicism eats at the root of the only thing that can overcome any obstacle that stands between us and God’s love and power. Therefore, it behooves us to further analyze how cynicism alienates us from all that God has provided us.’”
A Grounded, Honest Look at Doubt and Hope
“This book really caught me off guard in the best way. It takes on cynicism, which feels so common right now, and approaches it with a sense of calm instead of criticism. The connection between faith and the natural world is presented in a way that feels thoughtful and reflective rather than forceful, which made it much easier to sit with the ideas and actually absorb them. It doesn’t try to rush you out of doubt, it simply invites you to look at things a little differently. What stood out most to me is how grounded the message feels. There is a quiet encouragement throughout the book that reminds you that beauty and meaning still exist, even if you have gotten used to overlooking them. The writing has a steady, almost meditative tone that makes it easy to read in small sections and come back to when you need it. It feels less like being told what to think and more like being guided toward your own reflection. Overall, this is a really meaningful read for anyone who has been feeling a bit worn down or disconnected. It offers a different perspective without pressure and leaves you with a sense of calm rather than overwhelm. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for something thoughtful, steady, and quietly uplifting.”

Conquering Cynicism in a Modern Age: How The Bible in Nature Provides an Antidote to Doubt and Despair
“Cynicism isn’t just a rejection of faith or ideals but is a by-product of hope gone sour… So Smith asks: "Is there a way out?" His answer is surprising: He turns to Nature, in the ancient tradition of seeing God’s character in the natural world… The cycle of life and death in Nature is an ongoing parable, that even destruction and suffering, in some mysterious way, give rise to renewal…”

Must read for 12-17 year olds
“This book was a breath of fresh air. Cuts through the narrative modern textbooks espouse after they have been moulded by religion, corporations, and political leanings to call it exactly as it is/was. Holds no punches. Should be required reading for high school as it highlites the hypocrisies taught in their textbooks. Especially now when our Constitution is under attack daily. Bravo to the author.”
Interesting look at higher education
“An eye opening experience on the seat of higher education. The author does a good job of shining a light on some missing information no longer taught in early education. The United States of America was founded as a Christian country and the more some people want to move away from that fact the worse things become. One important fact that the author did not mention is that Ben Franklin admitted that a large part of the US Constitution was taken from the Iroquois Nation Constitution. I believe it is a fact that should be added to these discussions. Our Native population is repeatedly left out of this great nation.
“The author does seem to ride the fence on some issues, but at least shows different view points to let the reader decide. My takeaway for this book is that critical thinking skills are lacking in the younger generations. We need to keep the lines of communication open. Any country is one generation away from giving away freedom that generations have fought for.”
Understanding the Founding Fathers
“If you love history or politics this book is for you. There are many explanations of the constitution and Bill of rights that, through the years, have been taught incorrectly or misinterpreted. It’s important, especially these days, to be able to know what our Founding Fathers wanted for this new country and to know if we are following their instructions. Easy to read and understand.”

Thought-provoking and clearly written
“This book raises engaging questions about how American politics is taught and digs into the Founders’ original ideas with clarity. Whether you agree with every point or not, it definitely makes you think and encourages deeper reflection on how history shapes today’s debates.”
Common sense backed by facts
“Great book. Ties a lot of issues together that are in the current political environment. Info on the Founding Fathers and quotes of other key historical figures in American history was very educating and relevant to the research.”

If you think faith should inform your choices but doesn't excuse ignorance, give this book a try
“Smith’s book offers an exploration of the contemporary political landscape in the United States from a moderate conservative Christian viewpoint. Throughout the work, Smith uses a recurring dialogue with a former atheist professor, providing an engaging framework for his arguments. Although certain aspects of this dialogue occasionally feel forced, the overall structure effectively clarifies Smith's themes.
“The chapters are designed to address and challenge what Smith identifies as common misconceptions held not only by the professor but by segments of American society. Smith seeks to invite readers to reconsider prevailing beliefs and assumptions regarding political and social issues. Smith concludes with a strong call to civic engagement, education, and personal responsibility. He emphasizes the importance of these values as essential components of individual and collective participation in society.”
Lies My Professor Told Me
“This book was a good debate book, I didn't agree with some of things they said about The Bible, but everyone has their own opinions especially when it comes to the bible. Its always going to be different views between biblical and political. Overall is a good book to read.”
